Stephen’s real introduction to engineering software was in writing, as part of his PhD, an explicit dynamic finite element program for impact analysis. On completion he then moved to Arup, working as an engineer in the Advanced Technology Group. This included working with and developing software around LS-DYNA for a range of dynamic problems. A move to Arup Computing / Oasys followed to work on solvers for GSA – a structural analysis program, implementing finite element and eigensolvers for dynamic and buckling problems. He is now the structural team lead, responsible for the development of structural analysis and design software for Oasys.
